What About Jehovah's Witnesses
Perhaps you are wondering what the difference is between a Christian and a Jehovah's Witness and how can you discuss the truth with them. I will start by explaining their basic doctrine and give a brief idea of where they are coming from as well as the flaws that go along with their beliefs.

Jehovah's Witnesses believe:
  • Jesus began his invisible rule of the world in 1914
  • Only their church members will be saved
  • Jesus was an angel and then he became a man
  • The Trinity does not exist
  • The Watchtower (their church organization) is the prophet of God
  • Blood transfusions are sinful
  • Good works are necessary for the forgiveness of sins
  • Christ died on a stake, not a cross
  • Christ's human life was paid as a ransom for obedient humans
  • Christ was raised from the dead as an immortal spirit person
  • Earth will never be destroyed or depopulated
  • Wicked will be eternally destroyed
  • Only a little flock of 144,000 go to heaven and rule with Christ
  • Baptism by complete immersion symbolizes dedication
  • Only the chosen 144,000 can take communion
Jehovah's Witnesses consider evangelism very important and therefore you will often have them visiting you at your house. If you come off as interested in their church they will ask to begin a home Bible study with you, but what they really want is to have you join their church. Jehovah's Witnesses are a non-Christian cult because they deny the true diety of Jesus Christ and instead they create a false idol and call it Jesus, this is clearly breaking the first and second commandment.

Let's look at the above list, I am going to discuss a few of their doctrinal problems.
Jesus began his invisible rule of the world in 1914
I recommend reading Matt Slick's article on this because he does a great job at explaining it and the problems with it. View Article
Good works are necessary for forgiveness
This is completely false. Ephesians 2:8-9 says "8For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9not by works, so that no one can boast." Clearly we are saved by the grace of God. Imagine what heaven would be like if people were up there boasting about how many "good" things they did to get there. God does not want this unwholesome talk, we all have an opportunity no matter how good or bad or rich or poor we are, we are given God's grace, we just have to accept it.
The Watchtower is the prophet of God
The Watchtower Tract and Society has stated "It is God's sole collective channel for the flow of biblical truth to men on earth." If the Watchtower is the prophet of God, then why does it make false prophecies? If we read Deuteronomy 18:20-22 "20'But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded him to say, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, must be put to death.' 21You may say to yourselves, 'How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the LORD ?' 22If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does not take place or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him." Obviously if a prophet claims something that does not take place, the LORD has not spoken it and therefore they should be put to death. "The Watchtower is guilty of false prophecy (Deuteronomy 18:21,22) in wrongly predicting the date 1914 to be the return of Christ. They are also wrong in asserting His coming is secretly and invisibly because the Scriptures teach completely the contrary (Revelation 1:7)" (McDowell, 1993).
So how do we share the truth with these guys? That is not always easy. Most of the time I find myself doing nothing but talking about theology with them. I encourage you to stick with the law and the things that you agree upon such as how loving God is but not to spend time going back and forth with eachother's doctrines because Jehovah's Witnesses are professionals at playing Bible hopscotch, which is where you go from one verse to another and in circles the entire time. Just stick with the Ten Commandments because they agree with those and go from there.
